Swisher Fence Line Trimmer

Does it take you longer to trim that it does to mow?  This tractor attachment may be just the answer for you!

The Swisher ATV Postamaster Trimmer is designed to trim around fence posts, landscaping and other obstacles where you would normally have to use a hand held string trimmer.  You can pull the trimmer wih you lawn tractor, ATV or golf cart.

Pros:

Works great on regularly mowed fence lines, trees, landscape beds.  Can be pivoted to use on right or left side of your tractor.  

For the price this is a great machine for a homeowner.  It cost hundreds of dollars less than the commercial machines.  It is small, compact and folds up easily for transport and storage.  

Cons: 

The obstructions the trimmer can mow around need to be high enough so it can work.  It basically a string trimmer on a spring-loaded pivoting arm.  So when you pull it past the post the plastic guard rubs against the  post and a spring keeps it in place as you pull it past.  The obstruction you are mowing around needs to be at least six inches high for this trimmer to work. 

I consider the Swisher Postmaster a residential fence line trimmer.  While it is much faster than trimming with a regular weedwacker, the Swisher is not the fastest fence line trimmer on the market.  There are other makes that are heavier, more rugged, and faster to use.  Of course the other brands are considerably more expensive.  If you are a commercial landscaper looking for a trimmer to use in cemetaries, or large properties (hundreds of obstructions to mow around) look to the other brands. This trimmer works well when you regularly trim.  Many owners complain that it doesn’t work well on heavy grasses.  If you are trimming your fence lines everytime or every other time you mow this fence line trimmer will work well for you.  If you only trim your fences once or twice a year, you won’t like this mower.

Many owners complain that they line wears out fast when using it in heavy grass and weeds.  But the line seems to wear just fine if you use it on reguarly mowed fence lines.  Some of the owners have replaced the nylon line with stainless steel aircraft cable of the same thickness and that works well for them.
