Paul, you were very helpful in a question ealier in the year about my Craftsman YT4500 model # 28008. Thank you!
I need to outfit my tractor to move snow. I have heard some people say a blade for pushing is better and others say a blower. Due to budget, a blade is in the cards for this winter. Unless it is imperative to have a blower and maybe I wait longer and move snow manually a little longer.
Here are a few questions:
1. The blade p/n 24441 is for my 28008. Any pros or cons I should know?
2. The weights. There are two p/n 24434, 30 lb. wheel weights and then there is p/n 24445 QuickSecure Wheel Weights. The later is more expensive, are they worth it?
3. The chains p/n 24860?
Do you recommend these items or would there be others you prefer? I do want the installation to be plug and drive as easy as possible.
I am in Colorado and the snow can range from 6″ to a few feet depending on the storm. Does blade or blower work better in a certain environment?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts/
@Rod, Your tractor will handle a snow blower or a blade well.
The 24441 is mainly designed for the YT3000 series and is a very lightweight blade. I personally like the
Craftsman 48" Snow Bladeblade for your tractor instead of the 24441. A couple of things though….This blade attaches to the rear axle giving you better traction so you have to remove the deck to install it. It is 48 inches so you will need weights and chains to push more than a few inches of snow.I don’t have a preference for the weights. If you are handy you can build a box to fit on the back of the tractor and put sand or brick pavers in that.
Yes, the 24860 is the right set of chains.
If you go the blade route, you will have to be plowing snow every few inches. Plus, do you have room to pile the snow with a blade? A blower will get rid of the snow better but it is more expensive and will handle the “few feet” of snow a lot better.
