If you have been in a Sears lately you may have seen the new display for the Craftsman 12V Nextec lawn and garden power tools. I had a chance to demo these tools last month in Minneapolis and I am impressed! These new tools will be just the thing for homeowners with small gardens, planting beds and bushes to trim and those who don’t need or want a large gas-powered string trimmer.
The new line available now includes a grass trimmer and edger that doesn’t use string, a bendable and extendable hedge trimmer, and a 3-in-1 garden tool. These tools are very lightweight, and easy to use. Yet to come is a 2-in-1 pole pruner.
I did not get a chance to test the battery life, but the string trimmer was demoed by about 25 people and the battery was still going strong. These tools are well built and will last. I think urban homeowners will like these tools especially well because they will replace manual hand tools and are much smaller than full-size L&G tools.
Craftsman Nextec 3-in-1 Garden Tool
First on the list is the 3-in-1 garden tool. It comes with 3 interchangeable tool heads – a grass shear, hedge clipper, and three-finger gardening claw.

Craftsman Nextec Grass Trimmer and Edger
I spent a few minutes with this item trimming around some posts and along a cement curb. I like it!
- New Flail Cutting System – Convenient, easy-to-use high density plastic flails (hard plastic knives) cut the grass instead of tearing the grass like a convnetional string trimmer. Flails are easy to replace and can be stored conveniently right on the tool handle.

Craftsman Nextec Articulating and Rotational Hedge Trimmer

I didn’t get to trim with this hedge trimmer, but it seems to have plenty of power and is really easy to use.
- Rotating Head – The 135 degree rotating head quickly adjusts and has 8 locking positions for comfortable use for all position trimming
- Dual cutting – Laser cut steel harden, corrosion resistant blades will handle material up to 3/8 in diameter. The dual action blades provides a smooth cut that promotes new growth while helping the plant to resist disease
- Telescoping Pole – Single lever cam, quickly and easily adjusts extending the pole an additional 12.0 in., locks in place for a maximum height of 5-1/2 ft.

Craftsman Nextec 2-in-1 Pole Pruner
The pruner will cut up to 3/4″ and can be extended up to an additional 12 inches. It can be separated from the pole for easier hand-held use. I especially like the limb guide and the dual action safety trigger. All the better to keep your fingers safe.
The 2-in-1 pole pruner includes a battery and charger.
