I can’t tell you how many times I have heard, “A 42 inch tractor is too big for my yard and a 30 inch is too small!”
For many of us who own a town lot or a yard with a lot of landscaping, a 42 inch mower is just too big. The current crop of 30 inch mowers are not strong enough to pull a yard cart or they are a little too unstable for the front berm that we have to mow.

I am not going to spend a lot of time reviewing this tractor. But it does remind me a lot of the late 1990′s Craftsman green LT1500 tractors. It is almost an exact replacement of the old LT1500 I am using right now to mow my lawn. The design, the size, the engine are all good for the price.

2013 husqvarna 2038
This new 2013 model 2038 Husqvarna seems to have a bunch of improvements over the older 38\" model.
It omes with the same Briggs and Stratton 20 HP motor used on the 2042 model. Now has pressurized lubrication with an oil filter. Older model had splash lubrication.
Even though the Husqvarna web site hasn\'t been updated yet it comes with headlights and anti scalping wheels
Mower has plenty of power, starts and handles like a dream. this 38\" tractor has all the features of the 42\", just enough smaller to handle great in a smaller to medium size yard. great for getting around plants and trees. mine came with everything alliegned and ready to go didn\'t need any adjustments
Nice assortment of features, cup holder easy step on and step off, all set to attach a shade , just place it in the holders already there. Set speed and it maintains it uphill or down.
I have a 48\" opening gate and it drives thru with the 2 bin bagger installed. Couldn\'t be much better.
Only improvement needed is better customer support and service, that is a real bummer.
Don\'t let that stop you from considering this tractor it is that good
Response: I like the 2038 myself. I wish I could get it with an Intek Plus motor.
When you purchase a Husqvarna from a big box store be sure you register it with Husqvarna. Warranty repairs are less painful if your machine is already registered if you have a problem.

@Jake, I had one customer state the 29000 was too tippy for him and returned it for the Husqvarna YTH2038. The Husqvarna does have a fender mounted hydro so if you have to back up and then go forward to maneuver it is very easy to use. The Husqvarna will mow in reverse.
While the Craftsman is smaller I don’t think it will really be better for your yard because it will not mow in reverse so every time you back up you will have to turn the deck back on. The shuttle shift is not as handy to use as the fender mounted hydro on the Husqvarna
Hi I hope you can help me. I have a smaller yard with tight turns required to use a rider. I have always used a push mower for the last two years since moving in but I want to buy a riding mower to make it easy. I have a small gate in the back yard so this Rider looks like the ticket but 1. what about the front yard where my yard meets the road. This place where the grass meets the road would put half the mower right or left side wheels on the road and the other two wheels on the grass probably about 4 inches higher would that be ok? 2. Also I have a spot in the back yard where a old stump used to be and over the years the grass in that small section is depressed about 3 inches into the ground. would this mower be able to handle that with out scalping the ground? and would the road to yard height difference make it unstable? 3. I have been looking at other Tight Turn tractors from sears but would they turn in a smaller yard as well as this does or is this rider a better turner? 4. who makes the most maneuverable tractor for turning around completely before reach my back yard fence.
Love your review as I was going to buy the Troybilt but sounds like Craftsman is better.
So would this turn around as well in a small fenced in back yard as the Craftsman Rider 30″? I have a small back yard as far as depth is concerned probably only 16 feet deep but a good bit longer than that. My concern with the Rider is some areas where old stumps have caused ground depressions of a few inches and the front yard where the grass meets the road and I wasn’t sure if the rider from craftsman would be too narrow to handle that with out tipping over or what not. I have never owned a yard tractor before always just a push mower. I also like to bag the back yard so it needs to work well for that. Would you reccomend any other Craftsman tight turn mower instead?
