2014 Craftsman 42 Inch Model 20411 Zero Turn Riding Mower Review

Is this Zero-Turn Mower Best For You?

I know … zero-turn mowers are all the rage. These mowers are supposed to save you time and make your life easier. I like them and use them all the time. This Craftsman is a great choice for your 1/2 to 2 acre yard. If you have lots of trees and small landscape features to mow around this zero-turn can save you up to 50% the time it takes to mow compared to a conventional lawn tractor.  This zero-turn handles slopes better than most of the other 42 inch units because of  solid front axle is mounted directly to the chassis. This gives the mower the best traction under all conditions.

If you are new to zero-turns I would like you to read this article before you buy one.  Do I really need a zero-turn mower?

Replaces: Replaces 25001 CRAFTSMAN ,CM 42 RZT. This mower replaces the award winning 42 inch model 25001. The only change is the new solid front axle. This new suspension will allow this small zero-turn to handle slopes better than the oscillating front axle of the previous model. (I still don’t recommend 42 inch zero-turns for any type of slope) If you have a 1 acre lawn this mower will get your lawn done in about half the time it takes you to mow with a lawn tractor.

The Craftsman 42inch 24hp V twin engine riding mower is constructed to easily cut through the toughest yards — whether you’re cutting thick grass or navigating tricky terrains. The 22 hp Briggs & Stratton® V-Twin engine has less vibration over a single cylinder engine, full pressure lubrication, premium spin-on oil filter and gives you long-lasting performance. Lever lap bars control the dual hydrostatic transmission. A fully welded tub chassis is built to withstand rough yards.

This Craftsman 42 inch tractor has a high rated, deep dome cutting deck for excellent cutting, mulching and side discharge. The cutting deck can be raised or lowered for cutting heights between 1.5 to 4 inches. Yes, it has a deck wash.

We have a Craftsman zero turn mower with a 22hp Briggs & Stratton motor, does it have gears or belts in the crankshaft? It won’t start, just all of a sudden!

I have a craftsman model # 247-204110 z6000 zero turn. I am 70 yrs old and the oil drain valve is located under the starter and is almost impossible to reach. I am unable to get the oil to drain the valve will not pull out as requested in instructions and am not able to change the oil. Is there an easier way to change the oil. I purchased an at home maintenance agreement but not sure if oil change is covered. Please Help.

I have a sears z6000 zero turn and am impressed with its performance. what i don:t understand is the difficulty in finding crankcase oil recommendations. Common sense tells me a good sae 30 is ok, but what if i want to use synthetic? The manual does not mention this from front to back. I want out on a limb and puchcased a 10 w 30 synthetic and will use this. Have done so with all my walking mowers and the engine seems to outlast the rest of the mower, so still can’t figure why its not mentioned anywhere.

Hi Paul, Sears tech came and told me I am the third person call serverce with reverse disengage issue in his area this year. He contacted manufacture already and got the answer is 2014 model re-enage function is eliminated. The old modle has the same reverse function like Cub Cadet.

HI Paul, It’s Peter C again. I just got my Craftsman 42 ZTR today. It’s strong and easy to operate. But everytime after reverse and then I go forward, the PTO is still disengaged. I have to manually turn the PTO switch(to off and then on) again. I mow 40 minutes and turn the PTO off and on manually at least 25 times. It really drive me so crazy! I check the Operator manual. it’s said: “The PTO will disengage when both drive control levers are moved to the reverse position, and will re-engage when one(or both) control lever(s) is… Read more »

[…]  Price: I have noticed many of you buy the Ariens Zoom 34 because of price. It is the least expensive zero-turn on the market. What most new owners don’t understand though is that the price is least because it is the smallest zero-turn. Most of you who buy this should be purchasing at least a 42 inch like the Craftsman 20411. […]
