Craftsman LT1500

There is no better way to describe the Craftsman LT1500 lawn tractor as anything other than the best basic mower you can buy under $1000.

Basic low back seat, hard to adjust. Basic 6 speed manual transmission.  Basic electric start.

Basic 42-in. deck, cuts well but has no anti scalp rollers.

18 inch turning radius, DieHard battery

Of all the cheap basic riding mowers on the market today I like the LT1500 Lawn Tractor the best.  It is a good entry level machine.

The price on this entry-level model is relatively low, which means the Sears has cut some corners on this model, but nothing significant.  No front bumper.

The  channel frame and front axle are constructed of 11-gauge steel, which is lighter than the 10-gauge steel found on more expensive models.  The fuel tank holds 1-1/4 gallons, small but adequate.

The 17.5 hp Briggs & Stratton engine has a splash type lubrication system.  This model, the 27032 and 28033 are the only Craftsman Riding Mowers with a splash lube system.  All the other engines have a full pressure lube system. This is a cheap reliable engine designed for mowing on flat ground.

The cutting deck doesn’t have anti-scalping rollers, so you will have to drive a little more carefully along slopes and uneven terrain.

Overall, the Craftsman LT1500 Lawn Tractor 28903 is a low-end priced lawn tractor with a medium-grade engine that will cut lawns for many years.  This is a good “my first Craftsman” mower.

Note: If this is your first riding mower and you do not know much about maintaining or repairing it I would strongly suggest that you purchase the optional Protection Plan.  This plan includes not only warranty issues but normal wear and tear on the machine.  This additional plan will ensure that you have a good working mower for years to come.
