The TimeCutter series is what most of you will buy. You get a great ZTR at a reasonable price. It’s a great value!
- Timecutter: The Timecutter series is designed for finished lawns up to 5 acres. Most of you reading this article will find the Time Cutter is the best choice for your typical suburban yard. (The Titan and Z Master series are designed for both finished lawns and rough pastures)
Decks: The Time Cutter series now offers five different decks. These decks are designed to give you the best cut, the best mulching, and the best bagging yet. The five different decks are: 42-inch stamped deck, 42, 50, 54 and 60-inch fabricated decks. All fabricated decks are Toro’s industry-leading IronForged™ Cutting System. The fabricated decks are all 10 gauge (3/32 inch) steel with reinforced edges, wear strips and spindle areas. All models have adjustable front anti-scalp wheels. Flexible, poly discharge chute and 18,300 feet-per-minute blade tip speed.New – Quick Detach spindle covers. Toro engines are quickly proving themselves to be one of the best engine lines in the industry for residential use. Ease to replace air filters. It comes with a very easy to use oil drain tube so you can easily drain the oil into a container and never get any on the mower itself. Even the oil filter is easily accessible. The air cleaner cover is designed so that you put the air filter in the right way every time.
Smart Speed on all Time Cutter models. This feature allows you to keep the blade tip speed up so your cut is always perfect, yet slow the mower down for more accurate trimming, towing lawn carts/lawn rollers and safer mowing on slopes. Put the mower in MOW: 7 mph (3 mph reverse) for flat-out-high speed mowing, TRIM: 5.5 mph (2.4 mph reverse) for better control when mowing slopes, trimming around delicate plants and landscaping, or TOW: 4 mph (1.7 mph reverse) for pulling heavy loads like lawn roller, sweepers and yard carts full of firewood.All frames are 10 gauge steel.Replaceable front axle hub: These cast aluminum hubs are designed to break before you bend the frame if you hit something hard, For example, if you are mowing at full speed and you run into a tree with the front axle the hub will break instead of bending the frame. (bending the frame totals out the mower. This is a great feature if this is your first zero-turn!)Swept-back front axle: This gives you closer trimming capabilities than other brands and models where the front axle angles forward. Closer cutting means less time-consuming trimming.Step-Through Front or MyRide:
Models, including 42-inch models, are offered with step-through fronts or MyRide Suspension.
Step-Through: Only one other manufacturer offers an easy-on-step-through front. (Country Clipper)Getting on and off the Time Cutter step-through is very easy. The front footrest has a cut-out so you can get on and off the machine from the front. No more stepping across the deck to get on. There is an optional hand bar available to assist you in getting on the mower and getting up out of the seat.

MyRide: The unique MyRide suspension isolates you from the bumps, ruts and general beating ZTRs will give when mowing rough ground. Unlike other manufacturers that suspend the entire mower including the deck the MyRide only suspends the operator. This allows the mower to give you the best cut and the best traction when mowing rough turf.Easy to adjust MyRide. Change the softness or hardness right from the seat. This is great if multiple people use the mower because they can adjust the ride that best suits them. The MyRide suspension completely allows the operator to ride independently of the mower itself. This allows the mower deck and tires to run with the ground contours giving you the best possible cut.
Note: Other mowers with front and rear axle suspension allow the deck to bounce giving you a wavy or not so good of a cut. The MyRIDE is different. The operator (you) are suspended – not the entire mower. This gives you a much more even cut. If your lawn is rough you can quickly see the difference in the cut between the MyRdie mowers and other brands that have springs and shocks right on the axles. Beware of the hype: Just because it’s patented doesn’t mean it’s better…
Styling: Rear fenders are designed to keep mud and moisture off you and the mower give full all-around visibility to see when trimming. Cup Holder on all models. Tool Cubby on step-through models
Seat: Step-through units have a nice, comfortable, handcrafted seat. MyRide units have a deluxe seat with armrests. Easy to adjust seat slide on the step-through and quick up-top lever to adjust the seat on the MyRide.

Transmissions: The Hydro-Gear ZT2100 and ZT2200 will be very reliable on these models. Why? The Smart Speed control allows you to run full speed for flat areas and slow down without reducing the blade speed for towing, and hills. Slow for trimming and new operators just learning the mower. Tow with higher torque for pulling yard carts, lawn rollers, etc., and mowing slopes. Fast for flat open areas.
The 60-inch model (75760) uses stronger ZT2800 Transmissions.
Hydraulic Dampeners: Hydraulic Dampeners on the steering levers smooth out the operation. No jerkiness when learning to drive it. The deck automatically disengages and the brake automatically sets when you move the levers out to get on and off the mower. The engine stays running with the mower in park.

Titan: The Titan series is designed for finished lawns and pastures. Most of you reading this article will find the Titan is the best choice for your large suburban yard and small acreages. You can get the perfect cut on your lawn and also go out and mow your pasture or paddock. (Max height of cut is 4.5 inches) (The Titan and Z Master series are designed for both finished lawns and rough pastures)
Speed: Most brands will tell you that their mower will travel at 8 mph but most will not give you a good cut at that speed. The Titan series will mow at 8.5 MPH. The combination of a great cutting deck, 18,900 fpm blade tip speed, heavy-duty transmissions, and the optional MyRide suspension will let you mow up to 3.5 acres per hour with a 48-inch deck and up to SIX acres per-hour with the 60-inch deck. (5 acres at 20% overlap, 6 acres at 100% cut)
Transmissions: The Hydro-Gear ZT2800 ZTR transmissions with charge pumps will be very reliable on these models. Why? The ZT2800 transmission is plenty strong for this mower and will last years mowing under any conditions including slopes. The charge pumps help to keep the transmissions full of oil and help to reduce the shock to internal components of the transmission when working at high speeds and quick maneuvering tasks such as trimming and going over a curb. The ZT2800 transmissions are fully serviceable and repairable.
IronForged™ Decks: The Titan series offers one deck with three different sizes. These decks are designed to give you the best cut, the best mulching, and built to take a pounding. All decks are fabricated and have Toro’s industry-leading IronForged™ Cutting System. The fabricated decks are all 10 gauge (3/32 inch) steel with reinforced edges, wear strips, and spindle areas. The lift system is strong enough that you can step on the deck to get on and off. The deck sizes are 48, 54, and 60-inch fabricated decks. All models have adjustable front anti-scalp wheels. Flexible, poly discharge chute and 18,700 feet-per-minute blade tip speed.
Six-inch heavy-duty cast aluminum sealer bearing spindles are tough enough to handle pasture mowing and trouble-free. No need to remember to grease these spindles!
(FYI – the 10 gauge steel-reinforced deck is regularly used on commercial mowers. There are very few residential mowers that use deck steel this thick)
Anti-Scalp wheels that won’t catch on stuff: All anti-scalp wheels are height adjustable including the front center roller. The left anti-scalp roller is indented from the edge of the deck and the bracket is curved. This allows you to get close to objects like a chain link fence without the anti-scalp wheel getting caught in the fence. This is a big deal for me because I have a lot of chain link fence to mow along and over 200 feet of landscape beds that have glacier rock edges.
Bullnose front deck edge: One feature of these decks that most other reviewers don’t mention is all of the Titan decks have a bullnose front edge. This edge gives you a lot more strength at the front to protect the deck from caving in when you hit something solid. It also helps the deck to ride over stumps, sidewalks, etc. if the deck is set too low.
Cast Aluminum Stomp Pad: A grate attached to the decks lets you keep your grip and remove excess mud from your shoes. The deck is attached more sturdy than many other brands so you can actually step on the deck to get on and off the mower.
Frame: 10 gauge 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch square tube frame for extreme strength and rigidity. (This is a commercial-grade frame and most other brands do not use this thick of steel at this price point) The front casters are the heaviest I’ve seen on a residential mower.
Foot Lift Assist: The deck height is very easy to adjust. Just step on the foot pedal and switch the pin location to adjust the height. If you need to go over an obstruction that is higher than what you are mowing at just step on the pedal to raise the deck.
Tires: Large 13X6.5 front tires help you get the best cut and a better ride. 22 inch rear tires are the widest available for the size of the decks and offer great traction and floatation. The 22 inch rear tires are also sized to give you up to 8.5 mph mowing speed and won’t overload the transmissions mowing slopes. The front caster wheels are smooth and very wide so you can mow in wet conditions or sandy soil without rutting your lawn.
Engines: The engines are offered the 24.5 HP Toro Commercial and 21.5 HP Kawasaki FR Series depending on the model. Toro Commercial engines are quickly proving themselves to be one of the best engine lines in the industry for residential use. Easy to replace air filters. It comes with a very easy-to-use no-tool oil drain tube so you can easily drain the oil into a container and never get any on the mower itself. Even the oil filter is easily accessible.
Canister Air Cleaner: High-quality commercial-grade canister air cleaner on the Toro engines. The filter cartridge is easy to remove without tools for cleaning and replacement.
