Best Lawn & Garden Tractors 2017 – Over $1500

The Best Lawn Tractors, Garden Tractors and Riding Mowers for 2017 over $1500

If you are not sure what size or style of tractor is best for you please START HERE

There are over 1000 lawn tractors, residential zero-turns and landowner zero-turns available for you to pick from this year. This list covers just lawn tractors over $1500.

Note 1: This is not a complete list. With well over 500 lawn tractors and riding mowers alone it’s way too easy to get “Analysis Paralysis” so I am going to focus on the models available online.  If there is a dealer model you have a question about please ask in the comments below.

Note 2: This list will give you a link if the item is available to buy from the comfort of your home. I’ll add a link to my review as I get them done. If you are uncomfortable buying through that link (I make a small commission) please visit the brand’s website to find other ways to purchase the item.

Note 3: For Amazon I am only listing tractors available directly through Amazon Prime. Buying from Amazon gives you the Amazon A-Z guarantee so if you have any problems it is taken care of quickly or you can return it for free. Plus amazon offers a reasonably priced 3 or 4 year extended warranty through Asurion where they either fix your tractor or give your your money back. There are many other tractors listed for sale by third parties. Please read the fine print or talk to those vendors before buying.

Note 4: The major retailers now use pricing optimization software and the price can go up or down in as little as 4 hours. Please see the retailer’s website or your local dealer for the current price.

Lawn Tractors under $1500 is a general classification and is generally accepted as an economical riding lawn mower that will mow your lawn and perform light chores around your yard. Most will pull a sweeper, small yard cart for leaves and branches. Most are not designed for snow plows, snow blowers and ground engaging work.

Lawn Tractors over $1500 includes Yard Tractors, Garden Tractors, but not Estate Tractors. Yard Tractors generally have heavier frames than the lawn tractors under $1500 and can handle snow removal BUT NOT ground engaging work.

Garden Tractors historically by definition can perform ground engaging tasks like roto-tilling, moldboard plowing and driveway leveling but the brands have destroyed the term as we used it here in the U.S. For 2017 do not assume if it has big tires or is labeled a “garden tractor” it can handle ground engaging work. Ask me and I’ll guide you through the mess this has become.

Estate Tractors are outside the scope of this article. Generally they have transmissions stronger than yard tractors and many garden tractors and can handle most jobs around your property. They are a “step down” from Compact Tractors but are all high quality (read expensive) machines and built for durability not selling price.

Yard & Garden Tractors

You may sort this list using the small arrows at the top. The tractors are not listed as best to worst or worst to best. Why? Because there are way too many review sites right now that just make up a “Top 10” list or only use a very narrow criteria to tell you what’s best. In reality what you need for your property is not their first choice.

I want to help you find the best for you.

Yes, You need a new Gas Can!

With today’s fuels you need a gas can that seals tight. It helps the fuel last longer and the escaping vapors won’t wreck the environment. But the biggest problem is find one that works. The cheap ones ($20 or more now) don’t have vents so it takes forever to fill the tank on your lawn tractor. The cheap ones are also flimsy and the spouts break after the first year.

Well, I’ve found two brands that work great! They are vented inside the spout so it pours fuel quickly yet seals tightly when not in use.  I’ll give you links at Amazon for two sizes. I suggest buying the size so that you don’t keep more than a month of fuel around the house.

No-Spill 1405 2-1/2-Gallon Poly Gas Can. A good size for snow blowers and push mowers.

No-Spill 1450 5-Gallon Poly Gas Can (CARB Compliant) This one has a second handle in the back so it is very easy to use and hang onto when pouring into your fuel tank. A good size for lawn tractors and zero-turns.

If you have a problem holding a gas can the SureCan is a great can. It’s very comfortable to use to use and built well. SureCan – Gas Can with Rotating Spout.

Fuel Stabilizer: When I go to the gas station and buy fuel I always put fuel stabilizer in the storage tank. It helps keep the fuel fresh and some also clean your carb and fuel system without messing it up. There a man good brands but I’ve used SeaFoam for years and it’s always worked well. I use 2 tablespoons per gallon of fuel. Seafoam
